The village of Burnham Overy Staithe lies between Burnham Market and Holkham on the North Norfolk Coast. This parish has a variety of pretty holiday cottages with stunning views – this is one of the most unspoilt areas in Norfolk, with the beach forming part of the Norfolk Coast Path.
Between Burnham Overy Staithe and the sea the river leaks into multiple tidal creeks through the stunning salt marshes and finally reaches the sea through a gap in the sand dunes which is known as Burnham Harbour. The beach in this location can only be reached by walking, around a 20-minute journey. However – if you are able, once you view the soft powdery sand, the walk will be worth it! This is a dog friendly beach with plenty of room for your family pets to enjoy the sand.
The quay at Burnham Overy Staithe is a good destination for crabbing off the jetty. There are also local boat trips that run from this area, visiting Scolt Head Island and Gun Hill, which is the biggest of the sand dunes. If you enjoy water sports, Burnham Overy Staithe is also a good location for paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing, with beautiful views to enjoy on your journey.
