Plumtree Cottage in Burnham Overy Staithe
Burnham Overy Staithe, Norfolk
"'Spacious cottage just a minute walk from the coast. Warm and cosy with a rayburn and open fire.....dogs very welcome.'"
Plumtree Cottage is a pretty Georgian cottage, tastefully furnished with some local art and very much a home-from-home. it is a very short walk to the sea and beach, and is opposite the acclaimed Hero pub. It is deceptively spacious, and a light and airy cottage. It has a small-enclosed front garden which hides the cottage from the road, as well as a pretty enclosed larger garden at the back of the cottage.
The front door leads into a spacious hall and office area with a bleached white oak floor. To the right is a homely sitting room with open fire, sofa and comfy chairs. As well as having a smart TV with Google Chrome cast and wifi so you can stream anything from your own channels , there is a well-stocked bookcase (with OS maps and guide books), and a speaker with a Bluetooth dock so you can play your favourite playlists.
Through the hall is the dining room with a large wooden dining table and seating for six. The kitchen is adjacent to the dining room. It is a good size with lots of storage space. There is an oil-fired Rayburn, an oven and hob, a microwave, dishwasher and fridge. It is very well equipped with kitchen essentials and more, crockery and glasses. The Rayburn heats the hot water which is plentiful and very hot!
There is a utility area beyond the dining room with a washerdryer, a fridgefreezer and also the second bathroom with a shower cubicle (very handy if you come back from fun on the mud slides!!).
Upstairs there are 3 spacious and light double bedrooms. One has a king sized double bed, another has a super-king or twins, and the third has twin beds with an en-suite shower room. Storage is plentiful, with wardrobes and chests of drawers in all of the bedrooms. Each of the rooms are heated by radiators. There is a large family bathroom with an airing cupboard.
Crisp cotton bedlinen from The White Company is provided throughout the bedrooms. Guests are asked to bring their own towels. There is a landline phone which can receive incoming calls and an honesty box for outgoing!
Free Wifi is avaiable throughout the house.
All electricity, oil and wood are included in the price of the cottage.
Smoking is not allowed.
Pets can accompany their owners but should not go upstairs. We have found it necessary to make a small charge for dogs.
Sleeps 6: in 1 king, 1 superking/twin, 1 twin.2 bathrooms upstairs (one en-suite) and a shower room down stairs. 3 reception rooms and a spacious kitchen.
The back door leads to a pretty back garden which is completely enclosed. There is a covered area, where wood is stored for the sitting room fire. This also houses a BBQ and garden table and chairs and garden loungers x2. On road parking for 1 car is generally available directly outside the cottage on the small lane.
The cottage has full guest membership of the village tennis courts in the park up Gong Lane so don’t forget your rackets!

BURNHAM OVERY STAITHE is a very pretty village well known for its sailing and birdwatching. It is on the edge of the marsh which flowers with sea lavender in the summer and is home to thousands of geese in the winter. The walk along the bank leads to the sea with its long white beaches or a trip on the ferry takes one out to Scolt Head Island. For the initiated the route back can be by the cockle path and a couple of wades through the river at low tide.
The boathouse on the front often has excellent art exhibitions and also rents out kayaks.
On the way back it is good to stop at the Hero for a drink and maybe a pint of local prawns. The pub is attractive inside and does really good food, and in the summer it is also open for breakfast and coffees.
Further up the lane (a minute walk away!) is a wonderful children's play park and 2 super tennis courts which can be booked for sessions. Plumtree has guest membership for the tennis courts so please do feel free to book in at the courts.

It offers brilliant retail therapy and excellent eating at the Hoste Arms and other establishments. The area abounds with good eating places from the Victoria at Holkham to the White Horse at Brancaster, and further affield at Wiverton Hall, or Morston Hall for a gastronomic treat.
HOLKHAM HALL is just minutes away and is a wonderful place to visit. You can drive, walk or cycle through the park and see the deer .The view from the far end of the drive gives a spectacular vista of the house and park.
BURNHAM THORPE is Nelson's birthplace and the Lord Nelson pub is defiantly worth a visit. It has good beer and much Nelson memorabilia and the church should not be missed either.
