April Cottage in Wells-next-the-Sea

Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk

Description

"Centrally located in quite yard with parking, private courtyard and wifi."

April Cottage is your seaside retreat, a real home from home. The cottage has everything you would expect in a modern property whilst retaining its unique character. Wells is renown for its yards and alleyways filled with traditional fishermen's cottages. Chapel Yard is the prettiest. Lined with white terraced cottages it is always filled with the sort of light you only find on the Norfolk coast. It is ideal for a family seaside holiday but also cosy enough for a couple looking to explore the area or just relax by the sea.

On entering this charming cottage you will find a small hallway with room for you to hang your coats and store your shoes and walking boots. There is a cloakroom off the hall with a WC. Turning into the living room you will find a light filled dining area and lounge. The cream furniture, pale wooden floors and local watercolours compliment the location. There is a TV for those evenings when you just want to relax on the comfy sofas, or a range of books if you would rather read. A gas flame effect fire provides a focal point and back up to the central heating on a winter's night. On to the kitchen which has a range of eye level and base units for storage. A double electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine can be found as well as a Bose radio. Glassware, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans are provided. We have tried over the years to think of everything you might need and we think it is all there. Guests often comment how well equipped the kitchen is. Tea and coffee and perhaps some little extras are provided so you can put you feet up and have a cuppa, as soon as you arrive. The kitchen leads out into the courtyard.

A recently installed glass and pine staircase takes you from the lounge to the bedrooms and bathroom.
The king sized double bedroom looking out over Chapel Yard is decorated in shades of pale lavender and pink. It has a chest of drawers and bedside cabinets together with plenty of hanging for your clothes. The sunny yellow twin room is always filled with light in the mornings. It has a large wardrobe with drawers below. The small single room looks out over the court yard and has ample clothes storage. Hairdryers are provided and a travel cot if required.

The bathroom is in a striking grey and white with pale wooden laminate flooring. There is a large walk-in overhead shower together with a bath.

The Wi-Fi signal is good. Board games and jigsaw puzzles are also provided.

Outside Property

April Cottage's private secure brick and flint courtyard with comfortable outside seating and parasol is a real sun-trap. Sometimes it is a real wrench to leave and explore further afield. When you do manage to drag yourself away please help yourself, during your stay, to the beach toys and crabbing gear which is in the outside store.

We have put a bench at the front of the cottage as it catches the early morning sun and is an idea spot to catch a few rays and a cup of coffee, or tea. There is a parking outside the front of the cottage. Chapel Yard is quiet as it does not get a lot of through traffic. On the rare occasion that the space outside the cottage is occupied there is a garage at the rear with a further private space in front of it for occasional use by guests.

Surrounding Area

The cottage is tucked away in a peaceful sunny yard where you can relax. It is only a 5 minute stroll to the quay, shops, and restaurants. Walking to the beech takes you along the harbour where you can enjoy seeing activities on the water and the birdlife. The beech at Wells is breathtakingly beautiful with its wide expanse of sand and row of brightly coloured beech huts. Wells has many good restaurants and pubs, from award winning fish chips to the highly acclaimed Crab House. We hope to be welcoming back the Albatros Dutch barge this summer. Fish and chips on the harbour wall whilst watching the children proudly displaying the crabs they have caught, is an experience not to be missed.

Staithe Street is a few minutes walk away from April Cottage and has all you will need to keep you supplied during your holiday. A fish shop, butchers, fruit and veg shop and a small supermarket will provide all the essentials together with luxuries from the ice cream shops, bakers and delicatessen. There are a number of individual shops selling clothing, toys and beach accessories. The Maltings building has a cinema and theatre together with a museum and often exhibitions from local artists.

Holkham Estate is within walking distance. The grounds are open to the public all year round with a full calendar of events. Bikes can be hired to explore the miles of paths on the estate as well as getting you to the beach and the pinewoods. The coastal path runs through Wells . Turn left you can reach Burnham Overy Staithe and turn right you can walk skirting the marches to Stiffkey. There are many charming harbours and villages along the coast which can be explored on the coastal bus service.

If you fancy a train journey they is a narrow gauge rail service which runs to Walsingham during the summer.
