A special beach
With the tide out West Runton Beach combines both sand and shingle. The beach, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is not only a reviving resource for time out from our frenetic world, but a terrific site from which to learn about processes of coastal change.
The area is characterised by its sandstone cliffs, containing within them precious fossils, most famously, the nearly complete mammoth skeleton (or West Runton Elephant). Aspiring geologists will be pleased to find themselves by the largest chalk reef in Europe.
