Holt is one of the most attractive small towns in Norfolk in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The town existed before the Norman invasion but was destroyed by fire in 1708. It had to be rebuilt and we are very lucky that the timing meant that the Georgian style was used. The Main Street is lined with colour-washed Georgian buildings, many of architectural importance. Holt has some wonderful shopping opportunities with the well known Bakers & Larners store offering foodies one of the best delicatessen choices in Norfolk and a wealth of pubs, restaurants, wine bars and cafes to be enjoyed.
The North Norfolk coast at Blakeney is four miles away due north with Cley Nature Reserve nearby. There is good sailing, golf, bird watching and many good beaches close by . The beaches of Wells Next-the-Sea and Holkham are only a short distance away. The famous North Norfolk Steam Railway has its terminus within easy walking distance of Malbec Villa and connects Holt with the seaside resort of Sheringham five miles away. National Trust properties such as Felbrigg Hall, Sheringham Park and Blickling Hall are also a short drive away. Sandringham and Houghton Hall are within easy reach.
