Plumtree Cottage is a pretty Georgian cottage, tastefully furnished including much local art and fabrics. it is a very short walk to the sea and beach, and is opposite the acclaimed Hero pub. It is deceptively spacious, and a light and airy cottage. It has a small-enclosed front garden which hides the cottage from the road, as well as a pretty enclosed larger garden at the back of the cottage.
The front door leads into a spacious hall and office area with a bleached white oak floor. To the right is a homely sitting room with open fire, sofa and comfy chairs. As well as having a TV/DVD with full SKY package and wifi, there is a well-stocked bookcase (with OS maps and guide books), and a CD player with an adaptor for MP3 player and a selection of CDs.
Through the hall is the dining room with a large wooden dining table and seating for six. The kitchen is adjacent to the dining room. It is a good size with lots of storage space. There is an oil-fired Rayburn, an oven and hob, a microwave, dishwasher and fridge. It is very well equipped with kitchen essentials and more, crockery and glasses. The Rayburn heats the hot water which is plentiful and very hot!
There is a utility area beyond the dining room with a washerdryer, a fridgefreezer and also the second bathroom with a shower cubicle (very handy if you come back from fun on the mud slides!!).
Upstairs there are 3 spacious and light double bedrooms. One has a king sized double bed, another has a super-king or twins, and the third has twin beds. Storage is plentiful, with wardrobes and chests of drawers in all of the bedrooms. Each of the rooms are heated by radiators. There is a large family bathroom with an airing cupboard, and an additional separate cloakroom.
Crisp cotton bedlinen from The White Company is provided throughout the bedrooms. Guests are asked to bring their own towels. There is a phone which can receive incoming calls and an honesty box for outgoing!
Free Wifi is avaiable throughout the house.
All electricity, oil and wood are included in the price of the cottage.
Smoking is not allowed.
Pets can accompany their owners but should not go upstairs. We have found it necessary to make a small charge for dogs.
The back door leads to a pretty back garden which is completely enclosed. There is a covered area, where wood is stored for the sitting room fire. This also houses a BBQ and garden table and chairs. Parking for 2 cars is available directly outside the cottage on the small lane.
ABOUT THE AREA
Plumtree Cottage is perfectly positioned for a fun and relaxed holiday on the North Norfolk Coast. There is lots to do - beaching, crabbing, sailing, walking, birdwatching and numerous stately homes to visit. Holkham is only a few minutes drive away. The area is well known for its many art galleries. Delightful independent shops abound in nearby Burnham Market and in Holt. The beautiful countryside and coast are on your doorstep, as are award winning idyllic and often empty beaches.
BURNHAM OVERY STAITHE is a very pretty village well known for its sailing and birdwatching. It is on the edge of the marsh which flowers with sea lavender in the summer and is home to thousands of geese in the winter. The walk along the bank leads to the sea with its long white beaches or a trip on the ferry takes one out to Scolt Head Island. For the initiated the route back can be by the cockle path and a couple of wades through the river at low tide.
There is a chandlery (currently closed for refurbishment)on the hard which sells sailing gear, cards, clothes and often mussels.
On the way back it is good to stop at the Hero for a drink and maybe a pint of local prawns. The pub is attractive inside and does good simple food, in the summer it is also open for breakfast and tea.
Further up the lane (a minute walk away!) is a wonderful children's play park and 2 super tennis courts which can be booked for sessions.
BURNHAM MARKET is close by. It offers brilliant retail therapy and excellent eating at the Hoste Arms and other establishments. The area abounds with good eating places from the Victoria at Holkham to the White Horse at Brancaster, and further affield at Wiverton Hall, or Morston Hall for a gastronomic treat.
HOLKHAM HALL is just minutes away and is a wonderful place to visit. You can drive, walk or cycle through the park and see the deer .The view from the far end of the drive gives a spectacular vista of the house and park.
BURNHAM THORPE is Nelson's birthplace and the Lord Nelson pub is defiantly worth a visit. It has good beer and much Nelson memorabilia and the church should not be missed either. This holiday cottage has its own website: http://www.rentplumtreecottage.co.uk
