Top Places to Eat in Norfolk: Glaven Valley's Favourites
If you're planning a getaway to Norfolk’s Glaven Valley and wondering where to eat out, you're in for a treat. This beautiful stretch of North Norfolk is not only home to breathtaking countryside and coastal walks but also a growing list of exceptional dining spots. From elevated pub classics to exquisite seafood and indulgent desserts, here are our favourite places to eat out in the area - all personally tried, tested, and devoured.
The Nest Farmhouse, Docking
Rustic charm meets refined dining
The Nest Farmhouse is a true hidden gem - intimate, elegant, and bursting with flavour. The seasonal menu changes regularly, but we were lucky enough to enjoy a chilled gazpacho made with Isle of Wight tomatoes, rich beef ragu with smoked polenta, and perfectly glazed pork on a bed of lentils.
Desserts are a showstopper. Think artisan doughnuts with peanut butter custard and a towering knickerbocker glory that’s as fun to eat as it is indulgent. Their wine list is also well worth exploring - ask the staff for a pairing recommendation and settle in for a dining experience you won’t forget.
The White Horse, Brancaster Staithe
Seafood with a view
For seafood lovers, The White Horse is a coastal dream. Set against the stunning backdrop of Brancaster marshes, it’s perfect for a long dinner followed by a post-meal stroll.
The lobster here is the standout - fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented - but don’t overlook the rest of the menu. We ended our meal with sticky toffee madeleines and clotted cream ice cream, a combination we’ll be dreaming of for some time. Service is top-notch, and the relaxed seaside vibe makes it ideal for both special occasions and laid-back evenings.
The Hoste Arms, Burnham Market
Buzzing atmosphere in the heart of Burnham
A favourite for locals and visitors alike, The Hoste Arms offers a lively yet cosy setting to enjoy a meal. We dived into crisp tempura prawns, followed by perfectly cooked day boat fish with samphire - Norfolk on a plate.
It’s a great spot for groups and dog-friendly too, so no need to leave your four-legged friend behind. The atmosphere is always buzzing, especially in the evenings, and the dessert menu seals the deal (do not skip it!).
The Pigs, Edgefield
Unpretentious, hearty and full of flavour
The Pigs offers honest, delicious food in a laid-back setting. You’ll find generous portions and comforting British flavours with a twist. The Three Pigs belly of pork is a favourite for good reason, while lighter options like roasted seabass balance the menu beautifully.
If you're in the mood for a feast, try their pig event to share - a roast pork wellington with all the trimmings. It's perfect for a special occasion or a leisurely Sunday with family or friends.
The Salthouse Dun Cow, Salthouse
Laid-back coastal dining with panoramic views
With sweeping views over the salt marshes, The Dun Cow in Salthouse is one of the best spots in the area to soak up Norfolk’s natural beauty while enjoying a top-notch meal. Sit out in the garden in summer, or cosy up by the log fire when the temperatures drop.
The menu celebrates local produce - the Cromer crab salad is wonderfully fresh, and the fish and chorizo stew is packed with bold flavours. For dessert, we couldn’t get enough of the burnt Basque cheesecake with berry compote - rich, creamy, and beautifully balanced.
Final Thoughts
Norfolk may be known for its scenic walks and charming villages, but its culinary offerings are just as memorable. Whether you're after a seafood feast by the sea during your Norfolk holiday, a candlelit dinner in the countryside, or a hearty pub lunch after a coastal hike, these local favourites promise something delicious for every palate.
