A Wild Day Out at Africa Alive – Just Over the Norfolk Border!

If you’re enjoying a holiday in Norfolk and looking for a brilliant family day out just over the border, Africa Alive in Suffolk is an absolute must. We were kindly gifted a visit, and it turned into one of the highlights of our summer - a day full of wonder, wildlife, and wide-eyed excitement.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing. The park is beautifully laid out, and it really does feel like stepping into a different world. The kids couldn’t wait to hop aboard the Safari Road Train, and it didn’t disappoint! Cruising past the vast open plains where giraffes, rhinos, and zebras roam freely gave us all that real "safari" feeling - without the long-haul flight.

One of the most magical moments of the day? Seeing baby Charlie the giraffe, who was born on the day of the King’s coronation. There was something really touching about viewing him up close - a gentle, towering reminder of how special new life is in the animal kingdom.

Speaking of babies, my personal highlight was spotting a tiny monkey clinging tightly to its mum. We were all completely captivated. It’s these intimate, natural moments that make a visit to Africa Alive so memorable.

The kids were also completely enchanted by a children’s entertainer who had them laughing and dancing, providing a perfect break between exploring the enclosures and learning about the animals. It’s that ideal mix of fun and discovery that makes this place such a hit with families.

We also loved learning quirky animal facts from the knowledgeable keepers - like the Chapman’s zebras, with their distinctive additional grey stripe. It’s those little details that spark curiosity and stick with you long after you’ve left.

From the majestic lions at Lookout Lodge to the playful antics of lemurs and meerkats, there’s something to discover around every corner. Africa Alive isn't just a zoo - it's an immersive wildlife experience that feels thoughtful, educational, and full of heart.

So, if you’re holidaying in Norfolk and fancy a day out that the whole family will remember, head just over the border into Suffolk for an unforgettable adventure. Africa Alive is truly alive with wonder, and we feel so lucky to have experienced it.
