Cley Norfolk The George Hotel The George Hotel

Welcome to The George Hotel, where tranquillity is on the doorstep, thanks to the huge skies, acres of colourful saltmarsh and mile-upon-mile of unspoilt beaches that are also a haven for wildlife.
Here at Cley-next-the-Sea, with its narrow roads, no streetlights and a traditional red phonebox, you will find a beautiful, idyllic, north Norfolk brick and flint village that is bursting with character and filled with local culture. No wonder so many people are enchanted by this stretch of coastline.

You can get a flavour for the area with The George's celebrated lunch and dinner dishes, which are freshly prepared using only the best seasonal ingredients from local suppliers; these are complemented by our wide selection of regional real ales or fine wines from further afield.
We are also proud to offer a similarly high quality menu for children.

Our friendly staff look forward to welcoming you to The George Hotel.

Cley–next–the-Sea is an unspoilt Norfolk village and at one time was the centre of a thriving port community but over a number of decades the entrance to the village from the sea became silted up and the marshes increased in size making it a natural sanctuary for the numerous birds which visit it throughout the year. The sea is now held back beyond the marshes.
The National Trust administer this area which is designated one of outstanding natural beauty and attracts ornithologists from all over the country. The charm of the area is its complete unspoilt character where life is leisurely and is suited to people who require a peaceful holiday away from the crowds.
The village has 'a number of small shops and there is a limited public transport service to the larger towns of Holt, Cromer and Sheringham — the latter having two good golf courses.
The village has a beautiful village green, next to the magnificent church.
