The village is named after the woven woollen cloth that was originally made here some 600 years ago. Nowadays the village is home to only a few hundred people and is surrounded by arable farmland with the Church standing proudly in the centre with its clock circa 1850 in perfect working condition, striking on each hour. This is only one of a few of the turret clocks still working in this country.
