The Loose Box is a wonderfully cosy cottage with an open plan sitting/dining room. There are two bedrooms, shower room and utility room.
It’s decorated in soft chalky colours inspired by the beautiful North Norfolk coastal palette and has an interesting mix of old and new treasures to delight the eye.
The Loose Box originally housed a smithy and some very roomy stables for the estate horses. It’s now a very roomy cottage! Built from traditional Norfolk brick and flint it has a really intimate rural atmosphere, with exposed beams and contemporary touches.
Designed by Hudson Architects and with interiors by Jenny Dale it is now a luxurious Norfolk country cottage for 4 people: sunny cottage in summer or snug hideaway in winter and the perfect place for a break with friends or family.
The dining room / sitting room looks out through a huge window onto a sunny courtyard with colourful flower beds and a pocket handkerchief lawn, perfect for private sunning. It’s open to the kitchen so you can chat while cooking some locally bought produce..
Sunny courtyard with herb bed, lawned area and flower beds. Charcoal barbecue and outdoor table and chairs with garden umbrella.
Parking for one/two cars in stable yard.
A gentle twenty minute walk takes you to the medieval village of Little Walsingham, visited by pilgrims from around the world since its foundation in 1061.
Only five miles away is the unspoilt North Norfolk coast with its various beaches, from sandy to shingle: Wells-next-the-Sea with its huts and lagoons; the Georgian town of Burnham Market for fashion and interiors, as well as two very good restaurants.
You can learn to sail and windsurf at Brancaster or Morston; there are seals at Blakeney Point, great bird watching at Cley and endless walks on the famous Holkham beach;
There are also Pensthorpe, Houghton Hall, Holkham and Sandringham and their gardens to be explored.
Four miles away is the busy market town of Fakenham that retains its weekly auction with a farmers' market on the last Saturday of the month and a racecourse which holds regular meets.This holiday cottage has its own website: http://www.barshambarns.co.uk
