Location

Brancaster Staithe has been a fishing village since Roman times. Houses of all shapes and sizes with unbelievably long gardens, butt right onto the salt marshes.

Lots of the locals sell fresh mussels from their houses and a walk down to the harbour takes you through whelk sheds with masses of discarded shells.

Brancaster Staithe is a lovely coastal village, which has much to offer, making it an ideal holiday location at any time of the year. There is a wonderful sandy beach, numerous coastal and countryside walks, a golf course, a tennis court and excellent sailing.

There are two pubs within walking distance and shops nearby.

The village is situated in an extensive area of salt marsh, intertidal mud and sand flats which has provided a living for oyster, mussel, and crab fishermen for generations. This is a beautiful and peaceful place for leisurely walks and sailing.

Nearby is the site of the Roman fort of Branodunum

A little further along the coast there are many interesting bird reserves including Scolt Head, Titchwell and Holme next the Sea.

A boat can be hired at Brancaster Staithe weather permitting to take visitors to the National Nature Reserve on Scolt Head Island, managed by English Nature. The island with its nature trail is an important breeding site for four species of Tern, Oystercatcher and Ringed Plover.
