A pretty village on the North Norfolk Coast, popular with sailors, walkers & bird watchers. Sailing school and chandlers. Good pubs & restaurants.
SAILING at BRANCASTER STAITHE - First get a tide chart. For two hours either side of high tide each day you and your children can sail safely in the large harbour between the Staithe and Scolt Head, or the more competent out to sea over the bar. There are popular sailing courses for anyone over the age of 8, wet suits and boats provided, and flotillas of squealing children soon learn to deliberately capsize and right their Picos. This is where the local fisherman haul in their mussels, crabs and lobsters and where the White Horse Restaurant serves them later to those lucky enough to get tables. During Sailing Week Regatta in August there is barely a space to moor or park a boat but always the great open sea to race them. The Staithe and Brancaster Village compliment each other - one for beach and t'other for boats. You'll find boatyards, ships chandlers, even an antique shop but if you want sophistication and fashion then you'll head for nearby Burnham Market.
