Burnham Overy Staithe lies on the River Burn. and until the end of the Middle Ages trading ships were able to reach the nearby village of Burnham Overy Town. Whenever a ship arrived a gong would be sounded at the top of Gong Lane in Burnham Overy Staithe. This alerted the farm workers to unload the incoming goods.

Behind the picturesque sand dunes and flat sandy beach at Burnham Overy Staithe, the village itself is a quiet spot, formerly a small fishing port, and reportedly where Horatio Nelson first learned to row and sail.

Burnham Overy Staithe is a small village, but the Hero bar/restaurant serves great locally sourced food and nearby Burnham Market has a wealth of shops and restaurants.
