During the 13th century, Cley was one of the largest ports in the country.

Today, there are several shops including a wonderful delicatessen, a smoke house which smokes its own fish on the premises, a pottery, an art gallery, several cafes and tea shops, a hotel which serves delicious local produce, and an excellent traditional village pub.

The sea, which is only half a mile away, is approached through the Marshes, which form part of a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The whole area is a dream for walkers and bird watchers. Cley windmill is a local landmark, and is open to the public.
