Seafood restaurant with rooms, The Old Forge has been recommended as 'a must' by food critics in East Anglia.

The rooms have recently been refurbished and are lovely and comfortable. All are en-suite and have digital televisions and tea and coffee making facilities.

Charges are £32.50 per person per night including full english breakfast.

The Old Forge is a 14th Century former coaching station with forge and is steeped in history. It was a resting place for pilgrims journeying to nearby Walsingham Abbey and has a figurine placed on the wall which is a sign that the building has been blessed spiritually. It is mentioned in A Pilgrim's Progress.

The Old Forge has been completed refurbished and taken back to its original style of York Stone floors and bar, beams and a warm welcoming atmosphere. The original iron hooks are still in the restaurant where the horses were tied ready to be shod.

Colin and Sarah, his wife, are both experienced in the field of first class accommodation and cuisine. Colin, the chef proprietor, trained in France and has worked in Inn on the Park and Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Location

Located on the A148 between Holt and Fakenham at Thursford, The Old Forge is ideally placed close to Thursford museum, Blakeney, Holt and Walsingham, all recognised historical places to visit. The beautiful sandy beaches of Holkham are only a ten minute drive away.

Thursford Collection is not just a famous museum but a total experience with live music shows starring Robert Wolfe in The Wurlitzer Show, plus music from nine mechanical organs. During Christmas, Thursford Collection performs its renowned Christmas Concerts which people travel miles to see. During this time we put on a special pre-theatre snack menu and we get you to the show on time!

Blakeney Point is only five miles from The Old Forge where Norfolk's very first nature reserve was established. As this is the northernmost part of the county, it is visited by a wide variety of migrating birds and in Winter local boatmen will take you out to see the large colony of common seals which basks on the sandbanks off the Point.

Just a short drive away is Holt, an attractive market town whose more interesting houses are of the Georgian era, most of the town having been destroyed in a great fire in 1708.

All of these places can be visited amongst many others with a welcoming return to The Old Forge offering you an excellent evening meal and a bed for the night.
