Caley Mill and the National Collection of Lavenders

Caley Mill, the headquarters of Norfolk Lavender Ltd, was originally a water mill for grinding corn. Built in the local carrstone in the 19th century, and now set in its garden of lavender, roses and herbs, it has become a distinctive Norfolk landmark. In the grounds, we also have a National Collection of Lavenders. Each variety or species has its own bed. There are over 100 different lavenders to see and smell.

Also cakes, scones, cream teas, snacks, sandwiches and a selection of hot dishes are are served daily between 12 noon & 2p.m. During warm weather, enjoy your refreshments out in the patio gardens surrounded by fragrant plants. The Fragrant Gardens

Fragrant Meadow Garden
Explore the fragrant meadow garden. All the plants have been chosen for their aromatic qualities. Cross the white balustrade bridge and enter the 4 acre garden. Beds of shrubs, Mediterranean and shade tolerant plants, specimen trees that give all year colour and interest, and then merge into spinney and meadow. Take the path back over the bridge to our fragrant plant centre, and choose fragrant plants for your garden, patio or conservatory.

Fragrant Plant Centre
Situated in our conservatory, the centre offers an extensive choice of plants including lavenders, herbs and plants from our catalogue. Our staff are on hand for any expert advice required. The children’s play area is located in the plant centre.

The Herb Garden
More than 55 individual beds of herbs set out in the style of an old monastery garden. In the centre is a locally made sundial. Many of the herbs on display can be purchased from our fragrant plant centre.

Heacham
Our village was the home of Pocahontas when she stayed here with her husband who was born in Heacham. Our village sign depicts this and there is a memorial to Pocahontas and John Rolfe in the parish church St. Mary's.
Heacham has 2 beaches and a promenade that accesses Hunstanton, a great walk on a fine day or to watch the sun set over The Wash.
Norfolk Lavender is also situated in Heacham and it remains open all year, offering seasonal crafts, gift shop, restaurant, greenhouse and gardens, though the best time for the lavender is in July and August, when guided tours of the fields are available.
In the winter we have thousands of Pink Footed Geese fly over to roost on the Wash at night and return in the morning to feed on the fields of beet tops. We are mid-way between the RSPB reserves at Snettisham and Titchwell.
