More Details
Holkham Beach is a glorious 3 miles long expanse of sand with patches of shingle and mud. Low tide can recede ½ a mile, leaving lagoons that are safe for children.
The beach is fringed with sand dunes and pine woods protecting marshes and reclaimed pastures inland.
Holkham Beach forms part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve, an area rich in mixed habitats, flora and fauna. It is a haven birdwatchers and walkers. It is possible to explore most of the area by following footpaths from the main settlements or from car parks. The Norfolk Coast Path (a National Trail) links the car parks.
The Victoria Hotel stands opposite the drive down to the beach.
The Coasthopper bus service, which runs from King’s Lynn and Hunstanton to Sheringham, has one stop at Holkham village, next to the Post Office. It is only a couple of miles east to Wells-next-the-Sea, a small coastal town with shops, pubs, places to eat etc.
