Location

Wells-next-the-Sea is one of the most attractive towns on the North Norfolk Coast. It has a long & wide sweeping sandy beach bordered by pine woodland, a harbour with small fishing boats perfect for crabbing, wonderful Georgian architecture, great gastro pubs and restaurants and a browser's paradise in Staithe Street with not a chain store in sight. Wells is an unspoilt seaside destination just waiting to be discovered, with everything for the perfect holiday or short break. The nature reserve at Titchwell is just a short drive away.

Meander straight from the Barn through quaint winding streets where shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants are within 2 minutes stroll. Walk or cycle to the beach or catch the miniture steam train.

Great local pubs and restaurants include The Crown and The Globe owned and run by the Holkham estate, both located on the Georgian square known as The Buttlands. Finally, a trip to Wells is not complete without fish & chips from French's on the quayside.

Wells beach is truly a gem of the Norfolk Coast. A row of picturesque, brightly coloured beach huts sit in between the pine forest and the 4 mile stretch of golden sand, some of which are available to hire.
The beach is part of one of the largest nature reserves in the country, and despite its enormous popularity with families from around the UK there is always plenty of space to find a lovely spot to spend a day enjoying the surroundings. Large outcrops of sand dunes separate the main body of the beach from the sea at low tide, though you should listen out for the siren which warns of the rising tide, to avoid being cut off by the tide as it comes back in through a creek that cuts across the beach.

The beach itself is over a mile from the town of Wells itself, and although you can drive down to the dedicated beach car park, many visitors choose to take a ride on the Wells Harbour Railway, a miniature light railway service which runs back and forth from the town to the beach itself.

Wells quay has an abundance of cafes, shops and arcades which in the summer are bustling with families making the most of the seaside experience, whilst closer to the beach the Pinewood holiday centre provides activities such as lake boating, trampolining and crazy golf.

Wells has a large choice of hotels, pubs and restaurants and there are plenty of holiday cottages to rent, and places offering Bed and Breakfast.
