Wickmere Norfolk Owl Barn Owl Barn

Recently redecorated and refurbished, Owl Barn is a simple and charming cottage created from one end of the old farm buildings that make Church Farm Barns. The living area, dining space and kitchen are all contained in one large, open plan room, which has an exposed timber vaulted roof space. The cosy bedrooms open from the main living space, while the sunny courtyard offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy an evening drink or use the barbeque provided.

Owl barn is approached by a private lane with plenty of off-road parking. It is accessed via the courtyard garden and six shallow steps leading to the front door. It has a central kitchen, dining and sitting area. There are three bedrooms, one double and two twin. The fully equipped kitchen includes dishwasher, fridge, oven and hob, microwave, kettle and coffeemaker. The bathroom includes a bath with a shower. There is a washing machine and drying facilities available in the open barn adjacent to the courtyard.

There is a dining table and six chairs. Bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided, and all heating and hot water is included. A baby cot and high chair are available. There is an iron, ironing board and hairdryer.

The friendly owners, who live at the other end of the barn complex, pride themselves on maintaining the highest standard of cleanliness and there is a welcome pack of basic groceries and a bottle of wine on arrival.

The area is very quiet and rural, ideal for cycling and walking. Walk around the lake at Wolterton Hall or across the fields and across Blickling Park to the hall, birthplace of Ann Boleyn. Walking in the other direction takes you across fields and through orchards to the village green in Aldborough where you can enjoy a pint of beer while watching village cricket. The Saracen's Head, offering gourmet pub food, is just 15 minutes away.

Wickmere is a quiet hamlet made up of a few cottages built to provide accommodation for the workers on the Wolterton Estate, the family seat of the younger brother of the then Prime Minister, Robert Walpole. Using local holiday accommodation as a base, it is possible to walk or cycle safely along quiet lanes, reach all of the North Norfolk Coast and the local market towns. Wickmere is close to Felbrigg Hall and within walking distance of Blickling Hall, two National Trust properties well worth a visit, both offering extensive woodland and lakeside walks as well as the houses themselves. Other local attractions include the North Norfolk Steam Railway, The Shire Horse Centre, Seal Trips from Morston, and The Norfolk Broads.
