BLAKENEY AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Formerly the Blakeney History Group established 1990. Local history is a wide-ranging subject: nothing less than the story of the people who have lived and worked here and their impact on the landscape. Almost everyone will know something of interest, memories of people and buildings now demolished, of activities that no longer take place. Or you may have documents that throw some light on the past: old letters, house deeds or account books, for instance. But most of all, you can ask the questions which interest you, for this may help to decide the kind of research that the Society carries out - and the kind of local history that is written about our locality.

Visit our Blakeney Area Historical Society History Centre located at the rear of Blakeney Village Hall, Langham Rd, Blakeney. Open first and last Tuesdays in the month 10am-12noon or otherwise by appointment. Non- members welcome.

The annual membership subscription is £10, family membership £14,Corporate membership £25. Applications to the Membership Secretary whose details are on the website.

Blakeney is located on the North Norfolk Coast, just North of the small market town of Holt.

This part of the coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ANOB and the marshes and wide open spaces around Blakeney make it a haven for migratory birds and wildlife.

Blakeney used to be a small port, but is now a quiet village and provides an ideal location for a family holiday. There are two hotels, a number of holiday cottages to rent, and several B&Bs.

The village has a strong identity, and is a thriving and active community. There is a small supermarket, butchers, fishmongers, and chandlers, pubs and a post office as well a range of shops for holidaymakers – please follow the links to access local information.

Blakeney is popular with dinghy sailors, bird watchers and walkers, and you can get a real feel for the area by taking a trip to Blakeney Point to see the seals.
